Secondary school students in 2023

  1. Emanuel (Aquinas High school)

Emanuel joined form one in Aquinas High school in 2023 after successfully completing KCPE the year before. He started off on a high note which saw him become one of the school prefects. His grades are encouraging which makes him a promising student. 

His mother operates different businesses for survival and works in a wines and spirits outlet.

  1. Nicole (Huruma Girls’ High school)

Nicole was in form four in 2023, sat for KCSE and scored grade C-plain. With this grade she will be able to take up a diploma course in any institution of higher learning. She is in the process of identifying a course and college at the moment. She is a cousin to Emanuel Abdul-Aziz above.

  1. Sprewell (Chianda Boys High school)

Sprewell was in form four in the above school in 2023 and sat for KCSE. He scored grade C-plus and is among the students who will join the University in 2024. Sprewell is a symbol of resilience who has beaten all odds to make it to the University. For him, going to a university is a dream come true and a manifestation to his other siblings that anyone, through persistence and hard work can make it. 

His mother, Naomi still operate her small businesses which are a source of livelihood for the family. His father often finds casual jobs around and he if doesn’t find any, he helps in the family business. Family income is about kshs.30, 000 per month.

College students:

  1. June (Maseno University)

June started his third year of study in September 2023. He remains steadfast and is posting good grades in actuarial science course. A second born in a family of four, he is a role model to his other siblings who are also in school. His parents have worked jointly to ensure that all their children access basic education.

 His mother runs different small businesses which she changes from time to time. June’s father also make contributions towards family upkeep through his mechanical jobs and this has made it possible for them to educate the rest of the children in the family. Average family income is kshs.30, 000 per month.

  1. Mitchell (RVIST)

Mitchel was in the second year of her study in September 2023. She is progressing well and looks forward to a future full of hope. Mitchel is a role model to her siblings who are also in school. Her mother operates different small businesses to fend for the family while her father gets casual jobs which adds to family income. The average family income is kshs.30, 000 per month.

6. Yvonne (Multi media University)

Yvonne completed her classwork in 2023 and will be going for internship in the first quarter of 2024. She is hopeful to find work in some of the companies where she has been offering to do voluntary work during school holidays.

Her mother runs different small businesses for family upkeep while the father occasionally finds casual jobs. This has enabled them to take other children to school and provide other basic needs for the family. Average family income is kshs. 30,000 per month.  

7. Jerry ( Kenyatta University)

Jerry was in the third year of his course in information science at the above university in 2023 and will complete his study in 2024. As always he is steadfast and forecast. We hope he will find gainful employment/activity once he completes his study.

His mother still operates a general merchandise business. Most of her products are textile and cutlery mainly for the low-income group. Average income from business activities is kshs.30, 000 per month. His father often help in the business whenever he has free time.

8. Felix (JOOUST)

 Felix completed college in 2023. He has started off the year 2024 on a serious job search and hopes to find some work especially from the places where he did internship. 

His mother runs food business; selling both cooked food and grocery depending on what is in demand. She constantly diversifies products in order to attract and sustain customers. She earns an average income of kshs.30, 000 per month.

9. Kate (Moi University college)

Kate completed her classwork as well as internship in business management course. She has just started looking for employment or something she can do as she looks forward to better things in the coming years. Her mother still operates small businesses among them vegetables and fruits. She alternates products depending on what is in demand especially during this hard times. Income from business activities is currently kshs.25, 000 per month.

10. Kelly (Nairobi University): 

Kelly completed classwork of his course (i.e. business management) in Dec/2022 and went for attachment during the first quarter of 2023. He is currently looking for a more stable job since the one he has is on and off. He is often invited by the company where took internship to do some jobs whenever there is a large workload.

His mother is involved in a wide range of businesses based on what is in demand at different times. The businesses include vegetables second hand clothes, and general merchandize. Income from the business is subsidized by earnings from his father who does casual jobs. Average income for family upkeep is hshs.30, 000 per month

11. Brian (Moi University) 

Brian Emmanuel completed his classwork in December 2022 and went for attachment between January to March 2023. In November 2023, he got temporary employment in one of the solar companies in Nairobi where he is working to date. He is hopeful to be confirmed as a permanent employee or get longer contracts.  

Brian’s mother runs a grocery shop for family upkeep. Her average income from the businesses is kshs.20, 000 per month. Most businesses are not doing so well hence the low income. His father does all kinds of casual jobs whenever he finds one and this supplements family income..

12. Brian (JKUAT)

Brian completed his classwork in architecture and building sciences-real estate as well as internship in 2023. He is currently looking for employment even as he helps his mother in the family business. He’s optimistic to find employment and is working towards it. 

His mother sells second hand clothes and also incorporates new cloths which she buys from wholesale traders in Nairobi. The father helps the wife in the business most of the time. Average income from these businesses is kshs.30, 000 per month.
